If you haven’t found it out already, numbers are important to all aspects of our life. From addresses to phone numbers to your coordinates, they all have their places. I love fun ways to remember things so here are some things to help you learn the important aspects easily.

Chants to help you remember which directions the parallels and meridians run:

Longitude lines go up and down, latitude lines go round and round.

The lines of latitude, which sounds like “ladder,” lie like rungs of a ladder.

The lines of longitude are long and all run from the North Pole to the South Pole.

Fun Facts:
Latitude is a measurement on a globe or map of location north or south of the Equator.
The latitudes are referred to as degrees south or degrees north.
The zero latitude is at the equator.
Lines of latitude are also called parallels.
Longitudes are referred to degrees west or east.
A region’s latitude location has a huge effect on the weather around it.
The Prime Meridian, in Greenwich, England, is at 0 degrees longitude.
The north–south lines that run perpendicular to the parallels are called meridians.
