Firefly Fun Facts

They are actually not flies at all…..they are beetles.

Each species of fireflies has their own flash pattern.

The phenomenon of fireflies flashing in unison only happens in two places in the world: southeast Asia and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Tennessee.

There are hardly any flashing fireflies west of the Rock Mountains.

Female fireflies can be cannibalistic. They lure males by responding to their flash for mating and then eat them.

The larvae (glowing worms) will follow the slime trails of snails and slugs, paralyze them with one bite, and chow down.

Not only do fireflies taste nasty they can kill if eaten.
