All For One And Chores For All

Every week it is the same thing here…….laundry, clutter, trash, chores, oh my! I swear there are little elves that come out nightly and ruin my house. Oh wait, I have kids. I used to run myself ragged early on in this motherhood gig until I learned how to delegate. That’s right, to make your life easier you need to delegate, delegate, delegate.

I have tried several ways to make chores a family thing. Through the cleaning exploration we found as a family what works for us. “Zones” as we call it. Zones are what we refer to the rooms of the house that we claim for cleaning. Every so often, usually every couple of months, I let the kids claim their chore space. Guess what? It works very well.

For the complainers in the family? I make them do their least favorite choice until I don’t hear complaints anymore. Toilets? Trash? Dirty dishes? Yep it’s all fair game in my mom plan of torture. Just kidding but I do encourage perseverance. Once the complaining stops I let them choose again.

Oh and for those who do a lousy job? Oh I always have a fun plan for these people. They get a full live tutorial (prepare for eye rolls) by your truly. I nicely offer this tutorial every time until ,yep you guessed it, the work reaches my expectations. My kids learned long ago that mom can out do any stubborn they throw my way so I usually win the battle and the war so to speak. Here are two charts I put together to show you how we do things around here. After all the household chores are not just a mom thing anymore. If you like them please feel free to share them with family and friends. Enjoy!
